Wetfly Griffith’s Gnat Fly – 1 Dozen Fly Fishing Flies

Also known as the "g-gnat" or "midge cluster", this is a favorite fly that works throughout the year for rising fish any time of day. The iridescence of the peacock hurl against the hook and the grizzly hackle imitate a group of mating midges or midges that are fluttering against the surface film. The midge is one of the most prolific insect species inhabiting river and lake systems throughout North America and they resemble a mosquito (without the stinger). Fish the Griffith's Gnat in slow water or in lakes when fish are gently rising or whenever you see a midge hatch. A few places to look for midges is on river banks covered with snow (you'll see them against the white backdrop) or by looking up at the sun as it breaks cloud cover and you'll see them swarming a few feet above the water.
