In this interesting story by George Wuerthner, we’re treated to an in-depth lesson on an issue facing the famed Deschutes River. According to Weurthner, the Deschutes used to run as clear as the Fall or Metolius Rivers currently do. Thanks to irrigation demands, however, the Deschutes is often off-color, and its flows fluctuate wildly.
Wuerthner does a good job of describing this problem, and you can read his full story here.
